The walk is mostly on the Galloping Goose Trail (converted railbed, some of
which is part of the Trans Canada Trail) with gorgeous views of rural Metchosin
and Sooke Basin. (IVV trail rating - 3B)
Optional Pledge Walk: Suggested charity - Lions Camp Shawnigan for Kids, or charity of your choice. We will record total donations, but walkers are responsible for submitting funds to the charity of their choice. Pledge Form click here
For those who do not want to walk 32 km, the Juan de Fuca Pathfinders Volkssport
Club is offering a 10 km Walk from Sooke River Hotel, Sooke, BC. Open start
between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2008 Registration on the day.
Optional Award is $6.00 (see description on Registration Form for 32 km event.)
Pre-Registration for 32 km walk is preferred. Pre-registered walkers will receive
pre-printed certificates upon completion. In order for us to have enough food
supplies for everyone and return transportation, we request that you register
as early as possible. There will be some people who register on the day of the
event and we will attempt to plan supplies and transportation to take them into
account. You may also arrange to have a driver meet you at the Sooke River Hotel
where the walk ends if you prefer.
Registration / Check in begins at 0700, Saturday, May 3, 2008. Directions: Old
Island Highway (Hwy #14) to Colwood (Greater Victoria area) just past Juan de
Fuca Recreation Center (1767 Old Island Highway across from McDonalds). Turn
on Ocean Boulevard and then into parking lot at West side of Arena. Watch for
Lions Club and IVV/Volkssport signs. Some parking is available at the start
point, but please carpool if possible.
Age Restriction: Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Leashed
well-behaved DOGS in good physical condition are welcome. Owners must carry
bags to pick up after their pets.
NO CYCLISTS PLEASE. This is a walking event, and the checkpoints are setup for
walkers. All walkers start at 0800 hours (no early walkers please due to check
points not ready). There are 7 check points along the route with water and snacks.
Washrooms are available at most check points.
